ReAct - Wickford
Wickford held its third Re:Act Family Funday on Thursday 5th August. After months of organising, there were several last minute planning hitches and a massive thunderstorm the day before, so we were both excited and nervous when the day finally dawned.
Seeing it all come together, with churches from a variety of denominations working alongside one another and an estimated 1,500 people enjoying a free day in the sunshine, made all the hard work worthwhile. A variety of community groups from the Children’s Centre to the Police and local library joined us to provide Wickford families with a memorable afternoon.
The Church team really stood out in their red T shirts emblazoned with the slogan “Who do you say that I am?” whilst a “Church in the Park” tent provided puppet shows, testimonies and prayer opportunities throughout the afternoon. The Re:Act team did a magnificent job with face painting, hair braiding and inflatables as well as a non-stop stage show. In the meantime, a BBQ and café bar did a brisk trade giving away free food and drink throughout the afternoon.
There was a great atmosphere and lots of families were blessed by the day, but I can’t help thinking that God has more for our town than one day’s entertainment and a free burger. Sharing God’s love with our community on one day of the year is great, but learning how we can do it on the other 364 days is the real challenge.
