Introducing Future Hope
'Helping people in crisis gain hope and a future', FutureHope works with young people aged 11-19 with drug and alcohol problems and other issues. Since its birth in 2003 it has been supported by local churches and now offers drug education including group work like “Dex 'n' Drugs” (DJing and drug/alcohol education), and one-2-one support, including mentoring and counselling. Always meeting people where they are at, one young man we visited in prison said, 'you spoke a lot of sense, it makes me happy that after all I have done, you would still stand by me'.
Working in partnership with the YMCA and statutory services, a Pastoral Support Officer from a local school commented - 'FutureHope is a service we can trust'. We also run a mobile youth centre, known affectionately by local youth as the “God bus”, out most Friday nights from 9-11pm with over 5000 visits since 2006!
Now with over 20 volunteers, a full-time service manager and youth worker FutureHope recently secured funding for a part-time counsellor to help run a weekly support group for young people aged 16-21 with drink and drug (substance misuse) problems. The first of its kind (as far as we can tell) in the UK, it fills a nationally identified gap in provision for this age group.
Having also received funding from the Cross Pollinate foundation, we can now support other groups who want to do similar work by offering training and consultancy. As part of this we have also launched “Realyse” – training and tools for Christian youth workers, currently free of charge.
