Inspire Open Day - October
Why did God really send Jesus to earth? Was it simply to forgive our sins? Or is there more to it? The Inspire day began with Rob Purnell challenging us to come back to Jesus and remembering why he came. Even though we know he’s forgiven our sins, we are always in need of Jesus. Jesus promises us life in the full, so what does that mean?
Holding this thought in our hearts, Gary Gibbs began sharing about evangelistic strategy. Gary got us to think about mission and what it actually is and how church can express it. We thought about our starting place for mission; whether we are attracting people, expecting them to come to us or whether we are going out to people or seeing mission as the whole of life. Although we had no conclusions, we were challenged to reflect on our mission and think about the way forward. As Pete Gilbert said at the end of the day, God is calling us to ‘go again’, and I certainly left the day feeling excited and expectant about what is to come.
As part of the day we also heard from our wonderful hosts at Wickford New Life Church and had the opportunity to pray and encourage them. This sense of togetherness and being part of what God is doing across the network stirred my heart and encouraged my faith as I begin to believe God afresh for new things in Molesey Community Church.
In all of this, the heart of Inspire is still relational and the day left me feeling uplifted through making connections with old friends, sharing stories with my friends, meeting new people and enjoying a delicious breakfast and lunch.
A fantastic day and a call to ‘keep on keeping on’ as we serve Jesus together.
