Opportunities to preach and serve in Kenya
In May I travelled to sub-Saharan Africa for the first time. Adrian Hawkes in partnership with Sammy Nawali, a church leader in Nakuru, Kenya, is regularly sending pairs of people to teach local pastors there at three day conferences. I went with Zeb Amadi from North London. He taught on leadership and I taught on the books of Daniel and Galatians and the Cross and Resurrection. We spoke to 40-50 people and were well received. The church Sammy co-leads has grown in two years to about 60 adults and lots of children, partly, I am sure, because of the community work he is developing. After 5 years there are a school with four classes, an orphanage for 28 boys, and a garage for training mechanics. More classes, a girls’ orphanage and other ventures are planned. While I was there a water bore hole came into operation to provide water for the community and for crop irrigation to help feed the children. Also, a group of ladies came from Oxford to fit 270 ladies with 450 bras, give shoes and football kit to boys and to teach the ladies about personal hygiene issues. It was a great trip and I learnt a lot. I spent an amazing few hours seeing the animals in the Lake Nakuru National Park but my strongest memories are of what God is doing where people have a heart for Him and the local community and dream big.
