Open Heaven Church Update
Back in June we marked the end of another academic year by commissioning our finalists into a new season of their lives. It was inspiring to hear the raw passion they had as they talked about their hopes and dreams for the future.
Our students have been running “Club Mission” over the last few years which is where about 10-15 of them go to the Union every Friday night and hang out in a chill out room and look out for people, chat to them and love them. They have some great conversations and opportunities. At a recent Union awards ceremony “Club Mission” won Team of the Year which was amazing. The Union have recognised the value that club mission brings to the emotional needs of students.
Back in 2006 we put in a joint proposal with our friends Elim in Loughborough to purchase an old Church of England building that had become redundant. The proposal was accepted in 2007 which was amazing and we are currently in negotiations with contractors to bring this old building back to Life. The goal is to put in two floors creating lots of space for all sorts of activities that will serve the needs of the town. We have still got to raise a lot of money but are so grateful to God for his provision and continuing presence with us.
It’s actually been quite a tough year for the church especially with Ness and Rich going through such hard times with their 2 year old daughter Lauren who has been having chemotherapy treatment. Yet in it all there is so much to be thankful for. |
