Evangelism Training

Approach

The Ephesians 4:11-13 description of the ministry of the evangelist indicates (1) its formal nature to the building of the church in its doing, its strategies and its structures, and (2) the principle of multiplication through the equipping of the saints.

There can be no 'one size fits all' approach to evangelism training. Training needs vary seasonally, and from church to church, individual to individual, team to team. Effective evangelism training should probably operate on at least three levels; 1-1 training for specifically anointed evangelists, to smaller groups of interested church members (e.g. ALPHA Teams, evangelism teams, etc) and to the whole church.

Over many years involvement in church based evangelism Pete has taught and trained at these three levels, with the 'entry' level of training the whole church as foundational!

What's Involved?

The best way to change/enhance the culture of a church is to spread input over a lengthy peior of time, rather than an occasional training day or weekend. Changing church culture is a minimum two year process. Pete has developed a 'trickle feed' approach to evangelism training that ideally spans 6-12 months, at monthly intervals.

Once a month in the best forum (often a mid-week joint cell/small groups) the church family come together for an interactive, faith-forming, theologically stimulating, fun-filled evening of evangelism training. Each evening involves front-led input, small group work, bible teaching, personal interaction and practical application. Each evening also sets “homework” which the church members can engage with in the intervening weeks between Pete's visits, either individually or in their cell/small groups.

Content

The content can be tailored to the needs of the church but typically helpfully covers (as a minimum):

What is evangelism?
Who evangelises?
What is the Gospel?
Why do we evangelise?
What stops us?

Friendship evangelism

- identifying our networks

- evaluating our networks

- developing our networks

- praying for our networks

- working with our networks

Details

Dates and content are negotiable between Pete and the church. Costs are self-determind by the church in discussion with Pete.
