The Baca Project
The Baca Project started as a result of many people in Open Heaven church feeling God speaking to them about welcoming forced migrants into Loughborough. We launched Baca in February 2007 and now have a core team of six who run the organisation and are also supported by many other volunteers. The project seeks to invest into the lives of young asylum seekers, particularly unaccompanied minors, arriving into the town. In September 2007 the project secured a contract from Social Care Services to provide a supported house for four newly arrived asylum seekers of 16-17 years of age from Sudan and Eritrea who are either fleeing persecution for their faith or being forced into the military. It is now looking to set up a second house in January 2008 and utilise the networks within the Church of Loughborough to support families to house young asylum seekers needing a home and a surrogate family. We are also looking to expand the organisation to form a schools team to inform and educate young people about the truth around asylum and the countries that people flee from.
